Haris Rauf pulls out of Australia tour at last moments

Chief selector Wahab Riaz unveiled the 18-member Pakistan Test squad for the upcoming tour of Australia, which last week took over as head of the National Men’s Selection Committee for three highly anticipated matches scheduled will be held from December 14, 2023, to January 7,

However, the absence of dynamic pace bowler Haris Rauf has raised eyebrows in the team. Wahab addressed the omission at a press conference, shedding light on Rauf’s decision to withdraw from the tour due to workload management concerns.

Wahab highlighted Rauf’s role as an influential player and expressed the importance of utilizing his talent in Test cricket. He said initially the management struck a deal with Rauf, expecting him to bowl 10 to 12 overs a day, however, Rauf refused.

“He is an impact player and we have to use him in test cricket. We just insisted on bowling 10 to 12 overs a day. Also, he recently scored in one-day cricket. The only issue is that our bowlers who can bowl 140+ are now ineligible. So, as a player, you have to sacrifice and you have to watch the game for Pakistan instead of backing down,” Wahab said.

Rauf played the last test match for Pakistan against England in December 2022 in England.
