For the 2024 season, Glamorgan Cricket Club acquires a Pakistani pacer

The Glamorgan Cricket Club has signed Pakistani seam bowler Mir Hamza for the 2024 season.

The 31-year-old southpaw has played five Tests for Pakistan and is presently playing for Karachi Kings in season 9 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Hamza’s signing fills the void created by Michael Neser’s move to Hampshire.

With a remarkable track record of 434 first-class wickets at an average of just over 22, as well as respectable T20 statistics, the left-arm pacer looms as a formidable addition to Glamorgan’s squad.

Hamza expressed his excitement for his forthcoming stay with Glamorgan, saying, “I am thrilled to be joining Glamorgan for the County Championship this summer.”

“It will be exciting to work with Grant Bradburn again after working with him with Pakistan, and I can’t wait to join up with the squad, get to training, and help this great club push for a positive start to the season,” he told reporters.

Grant Bradburn, Glamorgan’s recently hired head coach, praised Hamza’s inclusion, noting past experience working with the Pakistani batsman while with the Pakistan national side.

“Having worked with Mir previously in Pakistan, I have full confidence that Mir will add huge value to our team both on and off the field,” Bradburn told reporters.

Mark Wallace, Glamorgan’s Director of Cricket, shared similar thoughts, describing Hamza’s acquisition as “excellent news” for the club. Wallace noted Hamza’s international background and past county cricket experience, expressing excitement about the contributions he will bring to the club.

“It’s excellent news that Mir has agreed to join us at the start of the season,” Wallace stated.

“He’s an international bowler with a proven track record and previous county cricket experience. We look forward to bringing him to Cardiff,” he said.
